Thread type only matters when you are buying replacement weights. For the tool, one wrench covers everything.

The square recess on the back of the tool accepts a standard 3/8 inch drive ratchet or socket wrench — the same drive size found in most household socket sets, so you likely already own one.

You do not need a ratchet for normal use. The knurled outer edge gives enough grip to turn the tool by hand for routine weight changes. The 3/8 inch drive is there for the first removal, when the factory adhesive makes the original weight stubborn.

Scotty Cameron installs sole weights at the factory using a mild bonding adhesive to stop them rattling loose, so the original weights are commonly stubborn the first time they come out. This is exactly what the 3/8 inch drive is for — put the tool on a ratchet for the initial break, then hand-turn it from then on.

Make sure the pins are fully seated in the drive holes before applying pressure, and turn slowly and steadily. If it still will not release, apply a small amount of localized heat to soften the adhesive and try again. Forcing a seized weight is how drive holes get chewed up.
